New York State moves ahead with retail cannabis licensing
The New York State Supreme Court has lifted an injunction against the Cannabis Control Board that was preventing them from processing new applicants for legal cannabis sales outlets.
“This decision brings much needed relief to the hundreds of provisional licensees who, until now, have had their businesses sidelined,” said the CCB Chair Tremaine Wright.
This bottle neck in the licensing process has limited the number of cannabis retail outlets to just eight for the entire state of approximately 20 million residents. Now they can move ahead with processing the over 400 applicants waiting.

Biden Pardons Thousands for Federal Marijuana Possession
President Biden has pardoned more than 6,500 people who were convicted for Federal marijuana possession including those in the District of Columbia. He said the current system of convicting people for simple possession or use of cannabis “makes no sense” anymore since so many states have legalized medical and recreational marijuana. Biden says the penalties for being convicted can last a lifetime and affect a person’s employment, education and social benefits.

Thailand to Give Away One Million Cannabis Plants!
The Government of Thailand has announced that it will give away one million cannabis plants after marijuana legalization takes effect on June 9, 2022. Medical cannabis was approved in Thailand in 2018.
To take advantage of the emerging cannabis industry in Asia, Thailand will allow citizens to grow plants in their own homes. In fact, they have created a new app, called Plook Ganja, where they expect residents to register their grows with the authorities, allowing cannabiz companies to purchase marijuana directly from growers, while keeping track of the whole business.

Canada Legalizes Recreational Cannabis!
Thank you Justin Trudeau for introducing legislation to legalize cannabis last year. It was a brave move for any country’s leader, especially one with such close ties to the United States.
This is the third country in the world to legalize cannabis for personal use, Uruguay has legalized cannabis for personal, and medical use, and legalized cultivation also. Marijuana Legalization Reduces Violent Crime
A new study found that US border states that legalized marijuana witnessed a huge drop in violent crime. The study: Is Legal Pot Crippling Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations? The Effect of Medical Marijuana Laws on US Crime. found that:
…among the border states the effect of the change in law was largest in California, where there was a reduction of 15% in violent crime, and weakest in Arizona, where there was a fall of 7%.
